The Lancia Aurelia B-20 was the model chosen by Gianni Lancia (son of the founder of the Turinese company) to introduce officially his company to the competition world. He expected a great advertising and commercial potential with this movement. It was the first model ever to be designated as Gran Turismo (GT), abbreviation that is still used nowadays. It represents the idea of a car with great features, that can be comfortably used daily but on the weekends be turned into a competitive machine, able to race successfully in roads or racetracks. It was released at the Turín Motorshow in 1951, causing a big impact due to its bodywork (designed by Felice Mario Boano and developed by Pininfarina) and its mechanical features, very innovative at that time: 6 cylinder engine in V with light alloy (designed by the engineer Francesco de Virgilio, always under the direction of the prestigious Vittorio Jano), independent suspension, rear gearbox and drum inboard brakes at the exit of the differential. All these features turned it into a very competitive machine since the beginning. Besides, it went through a lot of changes along its six production series, specially on what refers to its mechanical parts, always with engines of 6 cylinders in V, since the initial 75 CV to the 150 from the units with compressor. Slot Classic would like to pay a tribute to the company which started its fantastic sporting history with this model and raced successfully in all the legendary races from that era: Mille Miglia, 24 Hours Le Mans, Targa Florio, Carrera Panamericana, Sestrieres, Lieja Roma Lieja and, of course, the mythical Rally of Monte Carlo. With this reference we would like to pay tribute to the wonderful belgium artist Hergé, a great racing enthusiast, who in his story "The Calculus Affair" ("L'Affaire Tournesol") gave birth to an intrepid and quick italian character called Arturo Benedetto Giovanni Giuseppe Pietro Archangelo Alfredo CARTOFFOLI DE MILANO, pilot of a fast Lancia Aurelia.
